J1939-76 Replacing CAN be Safe
« on: November 09, 2020, 12:20:38 PM »
Hi, I am aware that the CAN be Safe blocks are being replaced by j1939-76 blocks soon. Does anyone know if the J1939 blocks will be compatible with CAN open Safety?

Hi LukeRA,

If you mean whether or not they can co-exist on the bus? Then Yes.
If it can be used to achieve CANopen safety? Then no.

I believe you wanted to know the lower one....

Have a nice day.

Hi, Tor thank you for the reply, hope you're having a good day.
We have a functional safety project that uses CAN open safety sensors. Am I correct in saying that the CAN be Safe block was acceptable to use to communicate to the sensors and still be compliant with the CAN open safety protocol?. But the newer J1939-76 blocks are not acceptable to use to communicate to the sensors and still be compliant with the CAN open safety protocol?.

Hi,

Since I'm not a CANOpen expert I turned to the developers with your follow up question:

"The CAN-Be-Safe blocks were not to meant to work with CANopen Safety. That is a different protocol, one that we have not yet finalized in GUIDE.
In short I wouldn't except either -76 or the CAN-Be-Safe blocks to work in this situation unless the customer ordered a custom configuration to match "

I hope this answer you question.

Have a nice day.
