Problem at Quick Start
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:16:46 PM »
I just started to use the MC024-021 controller and CG150 Gateway. I use 12VDC to power on the controller and it has green LED on. The controller is connect with PC using the CG150 Gateway communicator. But the GUIDE Sevice tool 6.0 does not show the device in the ECU list. On the bottom part, in the status bar, it shows "Disconnected".

In the Windows 8 64bit system, the Device Manager shows the Sauer-Danfoss CG150 device under USB category.

Can anyone please advice what is missing?

Thanks!

Hi Power4.

Have you checked your CAN line integrity (wired correctly, resistor)?
What's the RED LED doing on the controller, anything?
Is the Buadrate set at 250k in the service tool?
Have you tried "Recover ECU" in the Communication option at the top of the service tool?

I'm not sure of windows 8 I dont run it, maybe someone else could comment here.

Hi Neil:

I will check the line integrity. But if I just connect the gateway to one controller to download firmware, do I still add a 120Ohm resistor across the CAN+ and CAN-?
Only green LED is on. Baud rate is 250Kbps.
I will try recovery ECU option. But I doubt it will work, cause if no connection is created between PC and controller, how PC can send command to the controller.

Thanks!

Problem solved. I was told to put a 60Ohm resistor across the CAN+ and CAN- pin on the DB9 connector of the CG150. That works. Thank Helpdesk.

But why do I put a 60 Ohm instead of a 120 Ohm resistor? Anybody knows why?

SDF spec says you need two 120 ohm resistors; One at each end of the network.
Two identical resistors in parallel will exhibit only half the resistance.
So, on your test bench you can get away with just sticking a single 60 ohm resistor in the network.
