I'm starting a project with an MC088 controller. I won't be using all the pins.  Is it recommended to tie all the spare pins to the sensor ground, input power ground or to leave them floating?

you should leave them floating....

Keep them floating. I also prefer to connect the un-used pins to clamps....this saves time when you want to change something :-)
