Protect your application!
« on: September 19, 2016, 11:35:42 AM »
The default setting for PLUS+1® GUIDE and PLUS+1® Service Tool allows anyone (customers, competitors etc.) with a professional/design PLUS+1® License to access all applications and change settings.
  • You have the responsibility to secure your application against unauthorized changes
  • You should always use the PLUS+1® Tools Tool key feature (or a parameter PIN feature for PLUS+1® C Open) to restrict access to your application’s operating parameters.
          - Without Tool key or PIN protection, there is an increased risk that unauthorized personnel could use the PLUS+1® Service Tool program to change your application’s operating parameters

Warning!!!
Changes in your application’s operating parameters could cause unexpected machinery movement that could result in personnel injury and equipment damage.

Here are a couple of examples of different needs and corresponding solutions available in PLUS+1® Tools;

Your need: to restrict the download of an lhx application file to a specific part number or serial number
Your solution: restrict downloads by Part Number or Serial Number
How it works: The lock lhx feature restricts downloads by either;
  • Part number – The lhx application file downloads only to PLUS+1® units with matching part numbers
  • Or serial number – The lhx application file downloads only to a single PLUS+1® unit with the same serial number

Your need: stop unauthorized personnel from viewing and changing your application’s operating parameters
Your solution: lock log and parameter files by restricting service tool access to application values such as ECU list, log functions and parameter functions.
How it works: The recommended way to control who gains access is by the use of Tool Key. The Tool Key is a system password that is set in the GUIDE Application as a lock. To unlock the application the same Tool Key is needed in Service Tool. However the Tool Key is not needed to download an application, even if the application includes a Tool Key. The PLUS+1® Service Tool program can;
  • Download any Tool key-protected application
  • Only access values in a Tool key protected application with the Tool key password that you have assigned to the application. Without the correct Tool key, the Service Tool program cannot access the ECU list, log functions, and parameter functions.
The correct Tool key value gives you normal access to application values. The Service Tool program saves the Tool key value meaning this procedure has to be done once per computer.

Your need: stop unauthorized personnel from viewing and changing your application’s operating parameters without needing to hand out a password to lots of people.
Your solution: embed the tool key in the Service Application File (P1D).
How it works: The preferred way to enter the Tool Key in Service Tool is by embedding it in the Service Application File (P1D). In this way the Tool Key remains secure and cannot be shared with unauthorized persons either accidentally or intentionally. As the tool key is embedded in the P1D it will follow that and is not affected by which computer is used or the user and its license.
How to: read more on page 13 in the Service Tool Design Manual (L1320837 February 2016).

Your need: full protection.
Your solution: permanently lock a P1D or P1H files
How it works: The Service Application File (P1D) needs to be locked for full protection. This is to disable redesign of the Service Application File (P1D). Locking the file will disable edit and export functions for all future meaning if you would like to be able to create a copy of this P1D you need to save an edit copy of this file before locking. To be able to use this feature you need to have a PLUS+1® GUIDE or Service tool Professional license.
How to: read more on page 172 in the Service Tool Design Manual (L1320837 February 2016).
